The Graduate Development Programme

Our carefully constructed Graduate Development Programme will give you just the right amount of time and the ideal conditions in which to mature. Based at our Canary Wharf office in London, it will give you in-depth exposure to our work within the UK's financial services industry.

Rotations

After an intensive induction to introduce you to our organisation, our work, our aims and your peers, it’s straight down to business. Your three placements around the organisation will give you a breadth of experience and a unique overview of the financial services industry – from supervising firms, regulating markets and exchanges and authorising firms and individuals to work in the UK, to developing policies, promoting public understanding and protecting consumers.

Your placements could be in any one of our business units: The Wholesale and Institutional Markets Business Unit has overall responsibility for the regulation of firms and markets whose business is predominantly in the wholesale or institutional sectors and which, therefore, is conducted among market professionals; The Retail Business Unit leads the FSA in promoting resilient, effective and attractive retail financial services markets that deliver fair outcomes for consumers; we also offer placements in other specialist units such as Enforcement (which investigates and prosecutes non-compliance) or Strategy & Risk (which conducts strategic thinking on our regulatory approach and risk analysis).

Secondment

In your third year you’ll go on a six-month external secondment, giving you the opportunity to view the industry from a different perspective, while building on your knowledge of financial services. Graduates have previously been seconded to investment banks, law firms, fund managers and professional services firms.

Sponsored study

Personal development is something we take very seriously. So, in addition to the rotation programme, we offer a comprehensive range of business awareness sessions, training modules and professional qualification sponsorship. The latter includes the option to apply for support towards gaining qualifications such as the Investment Management Certificate, SII Diploma, CII Certificate in Financial Planning or becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst. So you can be sure there’ll be no gaps in your knowledge.
