The Graduate Development Programme

Our carefully constructed Graduate Development Programme will give you maximum benefit from our broad based expertise. Based at our Canary Wharf office in London, it will give you in-depth exposure to our work within the UK's financial services industry.

Rotations

After an intensive induction to introduce you to our organisation, our work, our aims and your peers, it’s straight down to business. As part of the programme, you will be allocated to one of our business units:

The Supervision Business Unit brings together all supervision in both the wholesale and retail markets and allows us to provide a fully integrated and consistent approach to our supervisory activities ranging from large financial institutions through to small firms.

The Risk Business Unit is responsible for risk identification and mitigation and the overall risk management process, and markets-related activity. The unit aims to deliver successful risk identification and mitigation across all areas of risk and sectors. The unit also coordinates all aspects of policy.

Within our Direct Reports Business Unit we have an International division that has been created to reflect the growing importance and profile that we need to give to our international agenda. The division co-ordinates our overall international activities and represents the FSA on the major international committees. Within Direct Reports we also have an Enforcement and Financial Crime division which investigates cases of fraud against consumers where there is significant and widespread harm, as well as addressing markets fraud, insider dealing and market abuse. Other areas include financial stability, internal audit, and communications all of which report directly into the CEO.

As part of the programme, you will also undertake a six-month placement in a different business unit to give you breadth of experience. For more information on the work you might do in these areas, please see the workstreams overview.

Secondment

In your third year you'll go on a six-month external secondment, giving you the opportunity to view the industry from a different perspective, while building on your knowledge of financial services. Graduates have previously been seconded to investment banks, law firms, fund managers and professional services firms.

Sponsored study

Personal development is something we take very seriously. So, in addition to the rotation programme, we offer a comprehensive range of business awareness sessions, training modules and professional qualification sponsorship. The latter includes the option to apply for support towards gaining qualifications such as the Investment Management Certificate, SII Diploma, CII Certificate in Financial Planning or becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst. So you can be sure there'll be no gaps in your knowledge.

We will also consider sponsorship of other related qualifications providing a justifiable business case is put forward.
