Studying Maths with Financial Maths at Manchester University helped me realise that I wanted a career in finance. I felt the FSA was best placed to provide me with exposure to the industry as a whole, and to help me decide which elements of the financial services suited me best.
The graduate programme worked really well for me as it allowed me to tailor my rotations to focus on developing certain technical areas. I currently work in the UK Listing Authority on equity transactions where my responsibilities include being the primary contact on transactions that are allocated to me, dealing with advisors on complex transactions and advising issuers on various corporate finance activities. The work can be quite fast paced at times and requires you to be able to multitask, make decisions under pressure and be very organised.
The FSA is a very friendly organisation that gives their graduates a lot of support and responsibility from the start. This includes a lot of training and the opportunity for further sponsored study.
