Telephone interview advice

  • Think about which phone you use. Check you are in a place with a good signal and have enough battery on your mobile or use a landline number.
  • Make time to prepare. Taking time to think about different examples will mean that you will have options to choose from when responding to the questions.
  • Reduce the possibility of distractions during the interview. Make sure you are in a quiet room and have the time to give the interview your full attention.
  • Make sure you listen and understand the questions and that you have understood what is required so that your answers give us the information we are looking for. The interviewer will be looking for specific situations you have been involved in and the actions that you took to deal with these situations. Although we do want to know some of the context, we are mainly interested in what you did and why.
